(5) Things we love…#135

Posted in Things We Love

Yes! I am finally on vacation – the last appetizer was shoved into the oven, the last chocolate cake morsel precisely cut and now I can forget about food for a couple of weeks and let other people (and airlines) feed me. But more of that later. For the time being, I will be enjoying a long and lazy weekend: Memorial Day and the Summer it officially heralds.

One. Wise words from two wise men, worth repeating.

Two. In the wake of Roger Ailes’ death many words were spent on how the man made Fox News the conservative powerhouse it is now. But on whose shoulders was it built? This great op-ed by Monica Lewinsky reminds us.

Three. Three cheers for Gellara Magazine, the very first magazine for Afghan women. What we take for granted, it’s a miracle of ingenuity in a country like Afghanistan.

Four. As a kid, I used to watch reruns of The Persuaders on a regular basis and I favored Roger Moore’s panache over Tony Curtis’ brashness. This brilliant anecdote (make sure you read through to the end) proves that Sir Roger Moore was a gentleman with a keen sense of humor.

Five. And now this. Just because.

  1. That last one got me to laugh out loud! And… on my end, the links on numbers 2 and 4 aren’t working (just thought you might like to see if they do on yours)

    • Thank you. Have been trying to fix them. Sometimes the NYT tinker with them so it’s impossible to link them.

  2. Sir Roger Moore’s charm went far beyond the Bond series, The Saint or The Persuaders…his UNICEF commitment heralded him as a true renaissance man. He will be sorely missed. Enjoy your vacation and have a marvelous extended weekend.

    • And…he was an animals’ advocate who spoke out against sport hunting.
