To those of you who do not live in the United States, I cannot stress enough how topsy-turvy it feels to live here right now. The rug has been pulled from under our feet and we have not regained our balance. Every day is an exercise in decoding what is happening and the public discourse has spilled into the private, whether we like it or not. Balancing levity and politics is becoming the new norm. But I have the whole weekend off and I am ecstatic!
One. Jon Stewart: we miss you, come back. On “The Late Show”, Stewart’s words of wisdom made me wish he were still on tv every night: “We have never faced this before. Purposeful, vindictive chaos. But perhaps therein lies the saving grace of Donald J. Trump’s presidency. No one action will be adequate. All actions will be necessary. And if we do not allow Donald Trump to exhaust our fight and somehow come through this presidency calamity-less and constitutionally partially intact, then he will have demonstrated the greatness of America. Just not the way he thought he was gonna.”
Two. It’s decided: in a few months I will be hanging out with elephants, my lifelong dream. Here is how it would feel if you were an elephant.
Three. JK Rowling is the best tweeter ever.
Four. There is a reason why Parisians deserve to be known for their style. Brilliant.
Five. California: where all the crazies convene. Sometimes great ideas ensue. At other times, one has to wonder. At least, we are inventive.
