Journeys are the midwives of thought. Few places are more conducive to internal conversations than moving planes, ships or trains. There is an almost quaint correlation between what is before our eyes and the thoughts we are able to have in our heads: large thoughts at times require large views, and new thoughts, new places.

  1. I am becoming a boring stalker but yes, spot on: Alain de Botton is my favorite contemporary writer, have read him all and at some point I had become a real groupie and convinced myself I should find him and marry him…:-)))) around the time he published his 3rd novel…thanks for the quote!

    • Have to say I love him too. Loved the Art of Travel and the whole airport project he did. Also rather cute (before the bald pate – so not pc….but what the hell)

That precise state of being is what I need right now and that’s why travelling is always more than desplacing oneself from one point to a new one
