The last seven days have been filled with the horrors of humanity on it’s worst behaviour. We’ve taken to throwing bombs at our problems – and during the past week we exploded a marathon, decimated a wedding party, destroyed a place of worship and leveled a school. We voted against gun control, whipped a teenager who had been raped by her father and butchered rhino.
I have been trying to find the exact words to describe how I feel about all this – and have been left (unusually) silent. But then I read this:
“We are buried beneath the weight of information, which is confused with knowledge, quantity is being confused with abundance and wealth with happiness. We are monkeys with money and guns.”
As ever, Tom Waits nailed it.
