These dresses, for Valentino, bring every fairytale we ever read to life. With just one gown, each of us could be the ethreal princess or wicked enchantress of those fables. Engaged in the battle between good and evil. Fighting our crusade looking elegant and gorgeous.
Maria Grazia Chiuri and her design partner Pierpaolo Piccioli have created a fantasy of dark and light, good girl gone bad, and bad girl redeemed. The detail in these dresses is heart-stopping – inspired by the wrought-iron gates and secret labyrinths of formal gardens. And they use hand painted organza, luxe embroidery, hand-rolled crepe piping, stamped wool, and intricate crystal beading to romantic perfection.
The show, which closed the Spring 2013 couture season, brought an emotional Valentino to his feet – for good reason. It is elegant, understated and wearable. If not affordable, but we can dream. Bravo.
