Shattered blooms

Posted in Things We Love

Beauty is truly fleeting, especially when you freeze it in liquid nitrogen and then shatter it with spring-loaded contraption.

New York photographer Jon Shireman immersed flowers for up to 30 minutes and then smashes them against a hard surface, recording their destruction with a high speed camera for his 2010 “Broken Flowers” project.  I love how he displays the results against a stark, grey-white background – like so many shards of splintered china.
